the patents concern an algorithm used inside the truetype
rasterization, called hinting. FreeType is currently negotiating
with Apple about this issue. Donald Knuth pointed out that
these techniques are not new at all and were in fact used
in his METAFONT program. Anyway, anyone who follows the
US patents madness knows that even though stated otherwise
this is practically irrelevant...
Questions concerning commercial use of Freetype should be
addressed directly to one of the FreeType mailing lists.
