Using the kernel option:

    video=vesa:ypan

should help speed up scrolling, if your card has any memory left over
from the 800x600 mode.  Running "fbset -i" will tell you, look at the
geometry line, the fourth value is the virtual screen height which
should be > 600.

Only if there is a working kgicon driver for your chipset, but as far
as I know we don't have any drivers for Trident cards.
