        Ugh.  Sorry about that.  Yeah, VESA 1.2 isn't supported
_directly_.

        Another way to hack this is to boot DOS first, run a TSR that
gives your card VESA 2.0 capabilities.  Then you use LOADLIN.EXE to boot
your kernel from DOS without rebooting, and the real-mode init code in the
kernel will be able to use the VESA 2.0 TSR to set a linear mode.
