--with-uninst-gii broken?

While building ALPHA binaries I decided to try the --with-uninst-gii
option to configure.  I built libgii in /usr/src/libgii and
used  --with-uninst-gii=/usr/src/libgii when configuring LibGGI.  
It fails the symbol test for giiInit then at the end complains
about missing LibGII.  Broken, or did I use the option wrongly?
