The Fairy of the North already told me about EXTRA_DIST.  I tried it and
it worked.  Happy day.

Keep in mind that when packaing the source for distribution then it is
best to do this on a machine that is capable of compiling the largest
set of files - that way the "make distcheck" target can test the largest
set of options.
