Many cards have a "palettized" mode for truecolor modes. However the correct
term is more something like "gamma corrected". Basically they use the LUT in
the RAMDAC to map the three individual colors according to the values in
the R,G and B channels of the palette registers.

So basically you can instantly invert the picture on truecolor modes
by setting the palette to 255,255,255 - 0,0,0.

However on many cards, this feature need to be enabled explicitly.
