Triston

Great! Glad to have found the new home-page. I've joined the new mailing list too.

May I suggest that you place a notice at http://ghdl.free.fr to inform users of the new location. When typing ghdl into google only the free.fr link comes up and it comes up first!!!

Perhaps the old mailing list could also be setup with an autoreply pointing to the new site. While I was subscribed there was another user also looking for help.

I can't believe this project hasn't earned more attention. We've been
using ModelSim for ages, and people have been complaining that there's
no simulator for Linux. I've already got a couple other students using it.

What makes it great is that it can be installed directly from the Ubuntu
repository. There is a problem though, I find on some Ubuntu machines I
get the following when trying to elaborate:

 /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgnat-3.4
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
 /usr/lib/ghdl/bin/ghdl: compilation error

I think this is because it's trying to statically link against the libgnat library, which it can't find. That seems to be the fault of the Ada people who don't have the correct symlinks in the /usr/lib directory. I think you worked around this by adding the
  /usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux/3.4.4/adalib/
directory to to your final (linking) gcc call with a -L option. The problem is that on these machines that directory doesn't exist, it's actually at
  /usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/3.4.5/adalib/

I tried to browse the bug system but didn't find a match, it's very slow to search there so I gave up after a while.

Regards,
Richard

Hi Triston

I've recently started using GHDL as an alternative to ModelSim and I
really like it.

Is GHDL still under active development? The mailing list seems very
quiet, apart from a ton of spam.

Yes, I am still working on GHDL.
The new mailing list (on gna.org) has a spam filter.

How is the 2002 support coming on?

VHDL 2002 is fully implemented.

This is really a great product and deserves more attention. The website
needs an FAQ and the mailing list needs some spam filters or a
subscribed members only rule. That would help a lot.

Feel free to start the FAQ (or just the questions).

I really wish you best of luck with this project, you've done great work.

Thank you.

Tristan.
