I don't think it's a weird idea, I think it sounds great. This is actually a pretty typical way to "bootstrap" new languages or language features. For example, most of the original C++ compilers actually "compiled" to plain C, and many custom "synthesis" tools for abstract langauges "compile" to VHDL. Anyway, I for one would be interested in using and contributing to such a project, if someone else started it (all the "champion a major project" slots in my life are pretty full right now). =) -- Wesley J.
