Despite "every one" in the EDA world uses Tcl, there are far better suited languages for embedded scripting ... First commercial vendors are offering two embedded scripting languages to escape the Tcl circle.
For example Lua has a nice interface to be embedded into other software. It's often embedded as scripting or configuration language in games, webservers, databases, scientific or office tools.

I've long imagined a GHDL with an HDF5 data file format and an embedded TCL interpreter for signal selection, signal file layout, and sophisticated simulation run-time control.
