WE ALL WANT TO EAT VEGETABLES free from pesticides, chemicals, hormones,
etc. But finding them in their purest state was a problem, until Renée
Perrine and Loren Manzano joined forces and formed My Personal Farmer.

Renée visited Bukidnon with her husband and was not just mesmerized by Mt.
Kitanlad’s beauty. She was also thoroughly impressed by the taste of Loren’s
homegrown vegetables.

“Loren has worked the farm devoid of pesticides and herbicides for 23
years,” she said. So the Perrines asked Loren to send them a box of
vegetables regularly.

“My husband is very particular about food, being a total health buff. He
eats only our vegetables! Especially after we learned that, in one cycle, a
vegetable can be sprayed up to 36 times with chemicals and pesticides!”

The vegetables at the Perrine residence was such a hit among family and
friends that they asked Renée to order vegetables for them as well.

This was how My Personal Farmer came to be—the operation patterned after the
CSA (Consumer Supported Agriculture) in the US.

Perrine, with the help of her friends, put a group of people together to
help support organic farmers and called it “Village-Supported Agriculture”
(VSA), where people in the neighborhood “support the families of a group of
agri-farmers led by Loren.”

“Loren and his team will be your personal farmer, dedicating his hard work
and lengthy experience to giving you a healthy, nutritious diet weekly. You,
on the other hand, will be dedicated to be the sure market in making this
Village Supported Agriculture sustainable,” explained Perrine.

“The farm produces and delivers a special box of fresh, naturally and
organically grown produce weekly for your family. No more middlemen, long
storage hours and less produce handling. The vegetables come fresh from the
farm to your village at competitive prices.”

There’s also what is called a “Village Mommy Veggie,” assigned for each
village. Her home will be the weekly drop-off point for the produce. Her
advocacy to help provide families around her with naturally and organically
grown produce will be rewarded with free vegetables. Her responsibilities
will be to gather at least 10 families under this program, to receive the
boxes for pickup and gather the payments.

Currently, there are five villages enrolled in the program. In Manila, they
include Ayala Alabang (for residents in the south), Makati (for residents of
both Ritz Towers and Luna Gardens Rockwell), White Plains and Palladium
Subdivision, and Shaw Boulevard (for northern residents).

There is also a Veggie Mom in Cagayan de Oro. Perrine is currently looking
for mommies for the areas and villages of Dasmariñas Makati, Ortigas,
Greenhills and The Fort.

I understand why people go crazy for their vegetables, because I do, too. As
I noted in my e-mail to Renée:

Your vegetables are so fresh, considering that I got them a day after they
were sent. The vegetables look like they were Photoshopped. Beautiful!
Perfect condition... Must commend shipping and handling.

Broccoli and cauliflower: picked at their prime, super-flavorful, meaty,
perfect texture and crunch.

Spinach and romaine: equally fantastic, no grassy taste. And to think I
juiced them!

Arugula: Nothing like it. so pristine in flavor, nice and sharp yet a
sweetish finish on the tongue. Smells so good.

Carrots: Phenomenal... Full-bodied, not watery but nice and thick; does not
separate or line the tongue with that sharp, slightly bitter taste—a rather
common characteristic of carrots made into juice.

Can vegetables ever be mouth-watering? With My Personal Farmer, they sure
can!
