3 TIPS TO KEEP YOUR CAR COOL THIS SUMMER
It feels like it's getting hotter every day. Here are some tips to keep your
car cool despite the oppressive weather.

*A dash of protection* - Since the windshield is typically the least tinted
piece of glass on your car, the dashboard right behind it absorbs immense
heat when parked under the sun, releasing it slowly once you operate the
vehicle's air-conditioning system. Keep your dashboard cool and save it from
warping and premature cracking by using a good windshield visor whenever
possible. Also, using a UV inhibitor like Armor All keeps your dashboard
protected from UV damage.

*Your biggest fan* - The electric fans that pull air through your condenser
and radiator are the vital to keeping your car running through this season.
Make sure your fan's fuses, relays, wiring and connectors are all sound, and
always have spare fuses/relays ready just in case one or more of them fail.

*Vent it* - If you absolutely must park under the sun, crack open your
windows between one-fourth and half an inch. If you have window visors (or
gutters, as they are mistakenly described) you can even leave an inch open.
Since warm air inside your car rises, leaving the windows slightly open will
help evacuate some of built-up heat and reduce the time it will take for
your air-conditioning to cool the cabin. When starting a car parked under
the sun, set the A/C to "max" and open all the windows fully for a minute or
two to let out the bulk of trapped warm air.

Philippine pre-election car sales surge 42.7%[image: Ford

Car sales in the Philippines continued to rise in April following the launch
of new models in the local market and due to improved business climate in
the past few months. Data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers in
the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) showed car sales climbed to 14,254 units last
month, 42.7 percent higher than the number of cars sold in April 2009. Total
cars sold from January to April stood at 52,963, 37.4 percent more than the
units sold in the same period last year. "Strong growth thus far has been
supported by the slew of new model introductions by auto players coupled
with aggressive financing packages available making the purchase of vehicles
more accessible and affordable for a larger group of consumers," CAMPI
president Elizabeth Lee said.

Mini distributor unveils limited edition John Cooper Works World
Championship 50[image: Foton

Only four of the limited edition Mini John Cooper Works World Championship
50 will be sold in the Philippines automotive market, and three already have
their respective owners. Mini is producing only 500 units of the Mini John
Cooper Works World Championship 50--a car representing Mini's double
celebration as it marks its 50th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of
John Cooper's first Formula One constructor's championship win in 1959. The
three-door hatchback is based on the top-of-the-line Mini John Cooper Works
with the same 1.6-liter, twin-scroll turbocharged engine that pushes out
211hp and up to 280Nm of torque thanks to an overboost feature. This is
paired to a straight-laced six-speed manual transmission. The difference
lies in the exterior and interior details which, according to British United
Automobiles, the exclusive distributor of! the Mini brand in the
Philippines, showcase "the racing pedigree of the brand."

*Presidential candidates offer advice to Chevrolet*

I'm a huge fan of good speakers. I even envy them. It's probably because I'm
not blessed with the gift of gab. I'm someone who you might say is better
read than heard. I'm rendered speechless every time a captivatingly (as
opposed to irritatingly) loquacious person is in the same room. I've always
believed that if you're an excellent orator, you can achieve pretty much
anything. You can freeze a crowd with a riveting narration of an otherwise
boring story. You can win a girl's heart just because your jokes seem
funnier than everybody else's. You can make it easier for a lost soul to
understand the Word of God. You can convince an employer that you're worth
much more than he's willing to pay you. You can sell useless stuff to
impressionable customers and make them believe they actually need the
merchandise. Heck, you can even sell the MRT to a gullible buyer because the
quality of your voice and the way you fire off every word sound sinc! ere,
credible and compelling.

*HEAD OVER WHEELS*
*10 things I want from our next leaders *

They say that elections are the only time in the country where the
distribution of wealth is equalized. It's a funny thought, but once it sinks
in there's a bitter aftertaste that follows. Because once the election's
over we get the short end of the stick again. One thing's for sure, election
season is certainly a very colorful time. As seats of power and wealth
become up for grabs, it creates a vacuum that leads to jostling,
positioning, and campaigning. The analogy of a circus descending on us
becomes an apt analogy as candidates make clowns of themselves just to be
remembered by voters with short attention spans. I won't just say who I'll
vote for, but I'll come out and say that I won't shade the circle of a
smarmy douchebag whose political career is riddled with anomalous dealings.
I made a list of the things I want from the next leaders who will occupy the
positions we vote them into. It's not a wish list of impossibilities like
su! bway systems and creating a tax for jejemons, it's a more practical
listing, but I still wish it will come true.

  *Verdict*

The Honda City is a very good and highly competent car. It looks better
than the previous one--no doubt--but it's trying too hard to be an
executive-type vehicle. That sounds nice and dandy but small cars are about
being fun, invigorating and enjoyable, not something rather staid and quite
boring. The Suzuki Swift is also an equally good car but it feels a
generation old compared to its peers. The interior is tight, there's not
much flexibility with the seats that allow you to haul big, bulky and heavy
stuff, and the inside is just a bit too plain. It's built well and handles
really well, too, thanks to the Swift's involvement in motorsports improving
the overall gene pool. The limited number of dealerships can mean you'll
have less after-sales support and options on where to have your Swift fixed
or serviced.
