GIMP needs to add a feature which allows an area to be selected and copied into a new layer, and then that area is replicated onto other layers (or multiple times into another single layer), such that when changes are made to the originating layer, those changes are reflected everywhere.
In Blender, this is known as an array modifier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mNUHOkKQcY GIMP needs a feature like this which can exist in modifier form, or be "baked" into the image with the modifier being applied.
