Yes. Push and hold CTRL while moving the mouse. You can also push SHIFT to make perfect circles instead of ellipses.


Note that you have to push CTRL and/or SHIFT after you push the mouse button down, not before. Using the modifier keys before that changes what happens to the selection in relation to an already existing selection: CTRL subtracst the new selection from the old one, SHIFT adds them together, both CTRL and SHIFT take the intersection.
