here is a problem i encountered often in the last year, and i didn't
find a quick solution to it... maybe s.o. can help:
say we have a picture:

and i want to stretch it by a stripe of px
___________

| #| |
|_#_|______|
^stripe of on px
to get a result like this:

without getting a distortion anywhere else.
i've been loosing hours of copy-/pasting with this ;(
