Hi, the answer is: never, because not GIMP is bound in no way to X11, but to the GTK. A stable GTK is unfortunately for Apples OS X only for an X11 backend available right now. But may be you can help the GTK project to finish their work on a native backend for OS X and help this to free GIMP from the X11 slavery on Apple OS X.
