Why not use "Dynamic Text" ? It's got it's own menu :
<Toolbox>/<Filter>/<Render>/<Dynamic Text>.
And once there, you can write your text by putting one character per
lign (ie: you hit "Enter", after each letter).
I think you should get what you want by this way.
