I use Mackies at work (videographer, AV tech) and can personally 
vouch for the preamps. I've used them at home with Gina with good 
results too. If you don't mind rotary knobs (instead of sliders) a used
first generation 1202 would be ideal.

Keep in mind, your mileage may vary...use high quality cables, keep runs 
short, avoid placing your mixer near sources of RF interference (computer
monitors, amplifiers,etc.).
