The command

        ps $$

will show something like

      PID TTY STAT TIME COMMAND
    12596 pts/1 Ss 0:00 /bin/bash --noediting -i

The question is what is showing under "COMMAND". In my case, it is
"/bin/bash", which means I'm running the "bash" shell.

Various different shells have different syntaxes for controlling the
"path" directories.
