While I see certain advantages of approaches of AppImage (or Snappy or Flatpack 
or ZeroInstall or whatever), I have two remarks:
- here is the wrong place to talk about, we provide the software, not the 
deployment
- your initial argumentation seems wrong to me: you say because your 
distribution is slow(in your recognition) on package updates, you tell us to do 
your distribution's job.
If your distribution is too slow or conservative on package updates for you, 
then either you should think about changing the distribution or talk to the 
package maintainer of Geany of your distribution.
Again, we provide software, not deployment. At least not for non-Windows and 
non-MacOSX systems where just nothing like package managers and package 
maintainers exist, unfortunately.

Anyway, back to topic, I agree with @b4n: if there is someone (like you) who is 
willing to provide constantly properly built and tested AppImages for Geany, 
that would be a nice addition for all users.
