@sej7278 well since Geany works on Wayland, but not on X11, and since its 
entirely GTK that talks to those, its something to do with GTK, especially if 
Debian has not updated Geany.  But unless

1. it happens to one of the developers

2. somebody finds a reproducer

3. somebody finds the cause

there is not much we can do.  

PS You could try compiling Geany from git, it has updated Scintilla which might 
fix it although I don't remember any significant changes in the GTK backend.
