The Lua manuals list "incompatibilities".  
[5.2](https://www.lua.org/manual/5.2/manual.html#8), 
[5.3](https://www.lua.org/manual/5.3/manual.html#8), 
[5.4](https://www.lua.org/manual/5.4/manual.html#8).  I don't know how 
significant they are for GeanyLua, but I'd expect simple scripts would probably 
keep working, while more complicated ones are more likely to run into problems.
