In your step 2, do you move the file or copy it to a different location? "Save" 
can mean both, but for a copy, geany should not care at all, imho.  

In step 4, what is "use the file". For instance, if it is a script, running the 
script will change the file, opened by geany? Using cat to show the content? 
Appending something? 

If I move the file with cut-and-paste in Thunar, before performing step 3, 
geany is blocked with a message "file not found" and the choice to resave it, 
or abort. 

Independent of whether I choose 'abort/cancel' or 'save', nothing happens if I 
append something to the previously moved file.
