rovf left a comment (geany/geany#4627) I made a fresh install of Geany from the geany webpage, and made sure that it replaces my current version, but same behaviour. So the problem is likely the Homebrew install. BTW, since Homebrew installs Geany into a cask, I guess it more or less is doing the same as when I move the App directory from the DMG File into Applications manually.
