It seems to me to be a useful extension, especially for testing and the cast() support. I doubt there are real-world situations where someone is concerned about memory usage of ints but is reading data from a CSV or JSON. On the other hand, I don't see the harm in supporting a superset of functionality that directly supports the Arrow types DataFusion is based on. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
