Alright, small distraction on the way. I found that the rounding for buffer sizes was not working for large numbers so we failed to even get close to the 2**32 limit. I fixed the method and so now we can make vectors that are about twice as large as before: https://github.com/apache/arrow/pull/35780/commits/6949b6c78bb2e728e9fd77507a5aa5f8a9b8714f.
