Nothing in theory -- I think the limiting factor for this is maintainer bandwidth which is a scarce resource Insofar as those on this thread who are interested in this topic can lend a hand (preparing / reviewing PRs, branches, etc) it would add to the available bandwidth and make some of the other proposals more feasible.
