Review Comment:
   Previously, take() always called `take_impl::<_, true> ` regardless of 
whether bounds were actually checked, and this could lead to UB like you 
mentioned above.

 only the `checked_bounds` path uses unsafe code. if the bounds was never 
checked unsafe accessors aren't used instead their panicking, bounds checking 
variant are used instead.
   
   
   the commit also updates most of the unsafe comments
