Review Comment:
   >for record batch we can get most of the benefits with the existing safe 
API, where we only bounds check for the first column.
   
   I may have mis-understood this. do you mean instead of adding a new unsfafe 
method, update the existing safe method to check the first `take_impl()` and 
the followed calls are unchecked. im not strongly opposed to this but I guess 
id prefer to make the unsafe call more explicit.
