Additional notes: * `try_unary` might benefit from a similar optimization, although it would mean we would invoke the closure on more rows after the first closure fails; for side-effecting closures that might be considered an API change. * Property 1 (avoiding null values) is expensive; we could avoid that by just invoking the closure on null values and assuming the closure is (a) defined / doesn't crash (b) cheap.
