I wonder if we should just leave connection pooling off for AutoSchemaUpdate cases (unless the user explicitly sets it)? The downside is additional complexity in our implementation, but until we're sure that this doesn't break or significantly degrade the feature, I'm a little concerned about turning it on by default.
