Sorry for being late with this, but there are scripts/walkthroughs for getting a development environment up and running in the repo:
Ubuntu and Debian derivates: https://gitorious.org/gitorious/mainline/blobs/next/doc/setup-dev-env-ubuntu.sh Centos and other Enterprise Linuxes: https://gitorious.org/gitorious/mainline/blobs/next/doc/setup-dev-env-centos.sh These should get the app up and running. If you're aiming for a production setup you'll need to make adjustments (using a dedicated git user and so on).
