I used to always login to gitorious.org using the OpenID URL linked to my Google account, but recently when I tried it told me to "finalize my account" and asked me to register. That's odd, as I've had an account for nearly two years (https://gitorious.org/~jwakely) and have always used OpenID without problems before.
In order to login I had to enter my username and reset my password, and to login I now have to use that password.
