Hi John,
as Marcin said, please make sure you are running Gitorious in "production"
environment. In case of apache + passenger your VirtualHost configuration
should have a 'RailsEnv production' option set.

If it doesn't help with the warning, you might want to update the codebase:
  git fetch
  git checkout d0f00fbacc8e22f0c6974dc890f01ad6f69f691e
then you need to update the gems (to get the fixed state_machine):
  bundle update
and then you need to restart your apache+passenger
