Yeah, the second one is easy to fix, by removing the focus around the historyView thing. The first is probable desirable, to rename branches? I've updated the sidebar branch to include the sidebar only in the history view. At least for now, I don't see a reasonable way to add the commit part in it. If we get more views, like a "current tree view" which is common in for example SVN GUI's, that's even harder to integrate.
