Yes, AFAIR I had to set DISPLAY to *some* value to make SSH_ASKPASS work. But I think I only set it at runtime before we make a request. Maybe there's a better value than what we use now, or we need to check whether DISPLAY is already set, and in that case shouldn't smash the value?
