Hi all, best regards to the makers of that superpowerful app.
As the interface seems to be discussed here, I would like to give a little
feedback about my use of Glade as a Gui Builder.
What I found quite annoying is that certain widgets' type depend on where
you use them. For instance, a button is not the same when, say, used in a
Gnome toolbar that in a normal button. Not talking about the thing that you
can only find in a gnome App by destroying what is not useful. I think it is
good to offer prepacked widgets, but giving individual acces to ALL
elementary ones is a must.
Another Point : would it be possible to use stock pixmaps directly ? Or,
say, a button with a stock pixmap & text, but that is NOT a stock button and
not located somewhere special. I agree that the approach of stock widgets is
quite clear in menus, but there could be a clearer way with buttons.
By the way, the diference between all the pixmaps types is not that obvious,
and I don't know what file format each of them can load or is better suited
for a use or another. But I assume this is more a question about knowledge
of Gtk & Gnome widgets.
Another point is the debate about the palettes ... isn't it all about
"interface customization" (It sounds like something known ...) ? Why not
provide hook functions and a _GLADE_ file to desc. the interface (you know,
libglade ?). I suppose this is the perfect illustration of what glade can
do. After that, you would be able to change it without recompilation (dare I
say at runtime ?).
Maybe there are technical problems that I don't understand, which prevents
things to be that simple, but THAT would be a superpower feature.
Bye,
xavier
