The same thing happened to me, on the same file.
Eventually (greatly confused) I untarred it on a SunOS 4.1.4 machine,
and it was fine. So I suspect this is some kind of tar compatibility
issue. FWIW, probably your best bet is to get hold of a copy of GNU
tar and use that instead of the native Solaris tar.
