I think this report is still outstanding, right? We've fixed lots of bugs
on the 6.8 branch since the end of August. Can you see if you can
reproduce the bug now?
You describe a fairly long manual process. But the main GHC build does
build stage1, and then uses stage1 to build stage2. This seems to work.
Can you identify what change from this plan makes the bug show up?
Finally, can you add `-dcore-lint` to your compiler flags for all
compilations]?
