 I'm running out of ideas. Is anyone who can reproduce this able to look
 into it, please? `windres` is part of binutils:

 http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw/files/MinGW/BaseSystem/GNU-
 Binutils/binutils-2.19.1/binutils-2.19.1-src.tar.gz/download?use_mirror=heanet

 I'd suggest starting by checking the problem can be reproduced with a
 locally compiled windres, and then step through the execution with gdb and
 see what's going on.
