From my perspective as a user: I would say it's easiest for the docs to
get updated to match the current behavior. It's unfortunate that we don't
have a stable release (other than perhaps 7.2.x which I won't count), that
had this deprecated before it was off by default. But, now that it's been
off by default for at least one release I've been purging its use in any
library I come across. So getting the feature back in the next release as
deprecated doesn't help me in terms of supporting multiple versions of
ghc. In other words, this feature is already dead to me. I say just leave
it off.
