Isn't NT supposed to provide posix compliance or am I mistaken?
I would have thought that file system access thru posix would be as fast
as whatever the native ntfs interface is.

Well some companies (at least one rather large bank in fact:-) that I know
of are thinking of using it, when they replace their Unix workstations. If
the whole idea of scripting com components with a functional language
really works in practice perhaps this is an area that Haskell might break
thru in?
