First, by way of introduction, I am one of the myriad of people who
found your fab sight through the article in Slate. I've only recently
started wearing glasses, so my prescriptions aren't that strong, but I
read A LOT in my job and reading glasses are really important to me.
My husband has been wearing glasses since forever.

Anyway, because our health insurance plan doesn't cover glasses, we've
been a bit lax about getting our eyes checked every two years (hubby
absolutely positively has to have reading and sun/clear for distance
or he can't drive and I need good reading and once when I still had a
cafeteria plan through work I got a pair of distance glasses with
magnetic snap-on lenses that I love, but that are now out of date and
broken to boot). All this is is a familiar story on this forum.

We're only 10 months out from our last eye exams, though, so didn't
want or need to go back to the optician, but I wanted a back-up pair
of reading glasses, maybe some suns and my husband had, um, sat on his
reading glasses enough that they were totally bent out of shape. I
still had my prescriptions, but had to call our optician to get his.
Opticare was very nice about it, which is hardly surprising since I
don't think we've ever spent less than $1,000 when we both go there.
I measured the PD for both of us.

This weekend I ordered one pair of prescription suns for myself from
39DollarGlasses, that ended up costing me about $45.00, delivered.
Last night we ordered THREE pair from Zenni -- two for hubby (reading
and computer, at these prices, why not?) and my back-up readers in
RAINBOW HINGELESS TITANIUM FRAMES. Boy oh boy on those -- they cost
more than my husband's two pair put together, but the total price at
Zenni for three pair with shipping still came out to less than $100.

I'll keep you posted on when they arrive and how they turn out, but we
are both WAY excited about these -- and I'm already finding excuses
why I have to buy another pair of clear distance glasses with the
magnetic clip-on sunglasses for cloudy/sunny days....

In browsing the Net, I found a sight called glassesshop.com, which has
a really interesting collection of glasses at about the same prices as
39DollarGlasses, Zenni, etc. -- including some very fashionable frames
on sale (including standard lenses) for $8. Does anyone have any
experience with this sight?

Thanks in advance!
