Hello, Glassy Eyes forums.

Last year there was an article on Slate.com about buying glasses
online. As I needed a new pair but couldn't afford it through typical
channels, I filed this article away for future reference. Three weeks
ago I bought a pair of glasses online for the first time, from
eyebuydirect.com. I followed all the advice on Glassy Eyes -- got an
exam from an eye doctor, got my new prescription (I don't have my old
one), measured my pupillary distance, read all the information on
eyebuydirect.com about my prescription and what it means, and so on.
I ordered my new glasses and they came last Monday, March 30.

As far as I know I did everything correctly, and I love how the
glasses look. Right away, however, there were problems. The view
through them, while sharp, is markedly distorted compared to my old
glasses. It's almost a 'fisheye' effect. For example, if I look
toward the edge of my vision past the lenses toward a straight
vertical line (like a door jamb), the view through the glasses curves
inward toward the top and bottom markedly -- about 5 degrees. This
distortion was enough to disorient me and give me headaches,
especially if I moved my head quickly. These effects have persisted
even though I've been wearing the glasses for over a week.

So it doesn't seem to be a matter of just getting used to them. And I
don't think it's a matter of a having new prescription. The
optometrist said my new prescription was negligibly different from my
old one.

I have to return the glasses anyway, since one of the plastic arms
decided to break yesterday, right behind the hinge. So, since I'm
going to be getting a new pair, the question is -- how can I fix the
distortion? Is it just a matter of trying different frames, or a
different refraction index? Did I screw up somewhere? Did the
company screw up?

I understand there are a lot of variables here. I'm just hoping I can
get some advice from those more knowledgeable and experienced than I
am.

BTW, here's my prescription:
OD -4.75 -0.75 015
       -4.75 -0.75 145
PD: 62mm
