Which company are you ordering from? I've found that Zenni's 80% tint
is good for all around use as long as you are getting something with a
large lens size (so that the light coming in around the sides of the
lenses is minimized). For smaller lens sizes or for driving glasses I
found 50% grey was pretty good too. The grey makes a nice sunglass and
doesn't distort colours. The brown (Zennni calls this amber) seems to
distort and brighten some colours (like the blue blocker type glasses)
although at 80% they make nice sunglasses, I didn't like the pair that
I bought that were 50%. I tried a pair with 80% blue lenses, but the
colour distortion was crazy... I won't do that again, but it was a
pair of $8 frames and $5 for tint so not really a big loss.
>From Goggles4u a nice dark sunglass is achieved with the 100% black or
grey tint and I have a pair with 70% grey tint that I find nice for in
the shade of the car (for driving).
Finally I have tried GlobalEyeglasses for some really cool sunglasses
(that actually look like sunglasses) I found that there dark solid
tint is not actually dark enough for my liking, although they aren't
bad for driving glasses (maybe 50 or 60% tint, the site doesn't
stipulate the intensity). The CSR at GEG told me that if I wanted very
dark sunglasses to pick the "dark solid" option and then in the
comments box to specify "extra dark tinting". I found that I liked my
second order of sunglasses with the extra dark option were much more
of a sunglass tint and they worked great at the beach last summer.
If you can get anyone to do it, the AR coating is a really nice option
to get on a dark sunglass lens as it stops a lot of those unwanted
reflections especially on the inside of the lenses if light gets in
behind the lens. Zenni used to do this, but you can't select it on
tinted lenses anymore (wish they'd bring it back). Eyebuydirect still
allows AR on tinted lenses (I just ordered a pair during there 30% off
sale) Not sure if any of the others offer AR on tinted lenses. I have
a call in to eyewearmagic.com as they have a sale on right now and
they say they include all coatings for free, but AR may not be
available with tint - we'll see I guess.

A little long winded, but I hope that helped to answer your question
somewhat.
