I have both the 50% amber (brown) and the 50% grey from Zenni and they
make a nice sunglass for driving, but for outside walking around on a
sunny day, they aren't nearly dark enough. I find myself having to
squint with my sunglasses on so I usually just wear one of my dark
(80% or better ) pairs for outdoor use. The 50% are fine for driving
or slightly overcast days, but for the bright sunny days I really need
the dark tint. Each has it's place though, I find that the dark tint
is a bit of a hinderance to wear if you are driving because it is so
dark. If you are wearing the dark tint and look down to change the
radio station or answer your cellphone, it's hard to read the
displays.
If you want a pair for both purposes, why not just pick up a couple of
pairs or the $8 or $10 ones from Zenni, shipping is the same if you
order one pair or 10 and the tinting is only $4.95 so you're getting
prescription sunglasses for the price of a cheap pair of regular
sunglasses from Wal-Mart.
Also I suggest that you pick something with a little bit larger lenses
than you wear in your everyday glasses, to help block the sun from
getting in around the sides of your nice new dark sunglasses and
ruining the experience for you. The old style "John Lennon" sunglasses
really suck when you are out in the bright sunlight, a big oversized
pair of avaitors work wonders in the bright sun (or something with
suitably large lenses) Big sunglasses are in style these days anyway.
