Hi all, I decided to try ordering from 39 Dollar glasses.com as well
as Zenni and here's how my experience went. I live in Canada and the
glasses took approximately 2 weeks to arrive for each company; that
was the good part. Part of what annoyed me was that both places sent
me an email saying how much the order was and then charged me more.
39 Dollar glasses told me this was an exchange rate difference, US
dollars to Canadian, but it still seemed like more than it should've
been to me. My order from 39 Dollar glasses said they had charged my
Mastercard for $88.46 but in reality they charged me $106.07, a
difference of $17.61, pretty sure the exchange rate doesn't account
for that much difference. Anyhow, I ordered sunglasses from Zenni, I
really like them, and they only cost me $36.99 Canadian including all
shipping and handling etc. I ordered the Madrid frame from 39 Dollar
glasses.com and was really disappointed. The frame had a definite
curve outwards so that they curved away from your face when on. From
what I could tell of the lenses the prescription was correct, but of
course it was hard to tell when they're not sitting properly on your
face. Looking at the website again I almost thought the picture of
the Madrid frame looked a bit weird, like it really did curve outwards
a bit, and maybe it doesn't but it just made me not want to try it
again. To their credit the man I spoke to at 39 Dollar glasses was
very polite; he said they would replace the same frame free, but I
decided I just didn't want to risk that frame again and was going to
order a different one. I was told the best way to do that would be to
be refunded for the first pair, minus 30% of the cost, and then to
reorder. Unfortunately their calculations of that are from the
original amount (supposed US dollar amount) of $88.46. Well, minus my
international shipping charge of $12.99 too of course, so really
they'll put just over $52 back on my card. And I paid $106.07. I
don't even want to reorder from them now. Will have to see if I get
any more than that with the exchange but not holding my breath. I
guess that's the risk you take as their try-on feature only shows you
the shape of the glasses on your face (which looked good) but doesn't
give you a 360 view of the frames. I never even considered the
possibility that the frames would curve outwards; that's not normal in
my opinion. I guess I should've taken the straight exchange for the
same frame, and tried them again to see if they were better the second
time but I just didn't feel good about it. It's funny that I was
hesitant about ordering from Zenni after reading a few negative
reviews of them, but they turned out to be the better of the two for
me.
