It could be any number of things, from the base curve to the material.
And, speaking of the material...poly was an upgrade? Polycarbonate
has the worst optical quality of any optical material. Its benefits
include being rugged, and shatterproof. Look up the ABBE values for
the common resins, like CR-39, poly, and Trivex, and you'll see how
they compare.
