Hi. I joined the list back in September in anticipation of purchasing glasses online. I read as many reviews here as possible, and decided to go with Eye Buy Direct. I'd had my eyes examined at the beginning of September, and got an updated prescription. I'm pretty nearsighted, with lots of astigmatism, and I've been wearing line-less bifocals for the last 2 years.
I was pretty nervous about ordering online because I always seem to try on dozens of pairs before deciding on one. I went to EBD on September 27th to look around, and found that they were having a 2-for-1 sale until midnight, which was awesome. I went ahead and ordered 4 pairs – two sunglasses and two everyday glasses. To keep expenses down, the sunglasses were single-vision. I chose Jonathan & Mu for my everyday glasses, and Jonathan (80% blue) & Karl (80% purple) for my sunglasses. The total was 152 & change for all 4 pairs. In contrast, last August (2008) I paid 222.00 for just one single pair. They came 14 business days later, right at the end of the time they were supposed to come. I wanted to wait a week or so of wearing before posting to be able to give an informed opinion. They all fit very well and the prescriptions are fine. There is a slight difference between where the “lineless” line starts between the two pairs, but that seems to be at least partly a function of how tall the frame is. It doesn't seem to affect them as far as usability. If I change glasses in the middle of the day, it takes a minute or two to adjust myself to the difference, but I've experimented with my old pair & the new ones, and have the same experience, so it must be me. Given that I didn't try them on in a shop, I can't believe how much I love them. They seem to be at least as well made as the last several pairs I've bought from the optometrist, and I like the way they look. My one and only issue was that the Mu pair needed a slight adjustment to the arms, but that was no big deal. I've worn glasses all of my life and have only ever owned 2 pairs of sunglasses prior to now; they were just too expensive. To have 2 pairs at once seems like such a luxury. The 80% tint probably isn't for everyone – the purple is very vivid/bright and looks more like pink to me, but they are exactly what I wanted. The blue is much less striking, but they still function perfectly. All in all, I had a positive experience - no problems at all. My husband is going to get his through EBD next, and I'm planning on sending in a pair of vintage glasses to be turned into sunglasses (if that is possible). d -- =^..^= There is in every true woman's heart a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity; but which kindles up, and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity. ~Washington Irving ☆♥•.¸¸.•♥☆♥•.¸¸.•♥☆ --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Check us out at the oft-updated http://glassyeyes.blogspot.com!
