I'm -7.50, too. I actually did have a pair of glasses once with lenses that were half an inch thick. This was back in the '80s and it was a large frame and who knows what materials they were using back then--this was before high-index lenses were available. I've got a pair from Zenni now with the standard lenses and they're about 3/16" also.
I had to wait 5 weeks before my glasses arrived but considering the savings it was worth the wait, but I did get impatient. I think shopping for glasses online is fun, which certainly isn't the case buying them locally.
