Nice to meet a fellow North Texan. Welcome to the group!
I always recommend that anyone start cheap. Zenni and CoastalContacts
are both known for exceptional quality as cheaply as $7-8. Other
sites are fancier, have online fitting rooms, etc...but those two
provide consistent quality, and at a ridiculous discount. Your nickel
allergy complicates matters slightly, but a plastic frame would take
care of that, easily. Titanium will be more expensive, though still
amazingly affordable.
The hardest part is just doing it...so just jump in and plop down an
extremely minimal amount of money for a sample pair. It's an
experiment, or an investment if you like. It's one which will likely
pay huge dividends in the future. But, you've got to get started
first...and if you like them, you'll be hooked. If not, the Lion's
Club got a very inexpensive donation.
Win-win.
(It took me a month of hemming and hawing before I finally bought my
first pair online.)
